Suit hire

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

FINALLY!!! After two failed attempts, we managed to finally attend our appointment with Peppers Formal Wear in Double Bay on Saturday.

At Peppers, you walk in and you are served by one of four assistants who takes your name and the date of your wedding before having a chat about the theme of the wedding; casual, semi-formal, formal etc then they measure you, get you a shirt (there are different shirts of course but they tend to give you the popular one with the square wing collars) and pants and off you go. They recommend different waist coats, tie/bow tie/cravat and jackets to suit the needs of the couple. I must say, given we’ve not really thought much about this we were very good at it (took us all but half an hour to get both the groom and groomsmen sorted!!). Or maybe the guy who served us was very good ;p

I don’t want to ruin the surprise for you folks, but I can tell you we have gone with something very classic and simple. Ben will match me as well match with his groomsmen. The groomsmen will likewise match the bridesmaids. Oh and Ben looks very handsome heheh.. well, at least slim LOL…

Booking a must for Thursday evenings and Saturdays.
Peppers recommend couples go in three months prior to the wedding to test drive some suits and get them ready for the big day. Having said that, they’ve also said it’s very rare that they run out of suits for hire! I guess everyone has different needs.

Eames chairs at the Watermark.. WE LOVE <3

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Just when we feel a bit concerned about our choice of Watermark as the reception venue as it’s still unsure when the refurbishment will take place and finish, I got an email from the events coordinator this morning outlining how the restaurant will be decked out. OMG!!!

It sounds absolutely perfect! I mean, the only thing they aren’t going to change appears to be the gorgeous floor to ceiling glass windows (which is our fave feature of the restaurant anyway, so we aren’t complaining!).

Overall, the colour scheme will be white, bright with muted earthy tones. The chairs will be an off-white Herman Miller Side Shell Chair with an Eiffel bottom (YAYYYYY!! We love Eames chairs.. and they will be the original fibre glass by Herman Miller too, totally impressed!). There will also be arm chairs of the same style in oatmeal. The tables will be a light American oak and the floor will be American oak also but smoked and limed. The lighting sounds like it will look fantastic too with pendant lights around the room.

We are so excited because we love mid-century feel and the Eames chairs - wow (I still can’t get over it!) -  it sounds like we could live there ha! We also love the overall colour scheme which will match our theme of ’simple white and romance’ so beautifully. Oh, how exciting. We are stoked!

While we are on the subject of chairs, those who know us, or have visited our home/stores, will know that we are lovers of anything Eames. Check out the catalogue here, you will see what we mean. The rocking chair will always be our favourite (ours is red ^^).

100 days to go!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Ah yes, I was bored enough to work out that today is the 100th day before our big day. While I can’t speak for Ben, knowing that made me a bit more aware that the big day is upon us and there are still so many things to do! Well, you’ve read about our potential ‘venue’ freak-out issue, but there are seriously many other things that are causing a bit of concern. I’ve just dusted them under the carpet till I need to deal with them. I am a firm believer that everything will work themselves out in the end… hahha.. or just plain lazy.

Headache list
#1 AV - got someone to provide me with a quote, I just need to get back to her.
#2 DJ/Band - still haven’t decided and haven’t really searched mmmmm…
#3 Logistics on the day, ie transporting the boys, the parents etc.
#4 We’ve had to cancel twice on our suit hire people.. we must be jinxed.
#5 Not quite a headache yet, but the table seating will surely be fun.. NOT!
#6 Also technically not too stressful right now but flights to Taipei for me, Ben and my parents… bro hasn’t decided if he wants to go yet!

In Taiwan
#1 I really need to call our events coordinator in Taipei. No idea what’s happening on that front. Mental note.
#2 Photographer or no photographer … that is the question.

Mmm.. you know what, now that I’ve listed them all down, it’s not so bad. ^^

See you in person in 100 days if not earlier!

should we start worrying?

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Mmm, the reception venue refurbishment has not started (it was meant to finish in July?!) and our menu tasting booking won’t be available till two weeks before the big day. The event coordinator even said “you may be our first diners in the new restaurant!!” mmm…  should we start worrying?

sheraton on the park

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

The ideal suite to book is of course the beautiful Park Hyatt at The Rocks but alas, at $1,000 a night, I don’t think so! We also like the Westin, but they are smaller by comparison (the Hilton is worse) and the Observatory Hotel is just a tad out of the way. Given I need to house two mothers, three bridesmaids, myself and two make up/hair dressers, photographer and videographer I thought an executive suite at the Sheraton the Park should do the trick. Fortunately, the Sheraton is also conveniently located (suites face Hyde Park) and with 70 sqm and separate lounge/bedroom spaces for their ’suite for a room’ price of $450 a night is, I think, close to perfect. It comes with executive lounge access which I think means we get breakfast too, yippee, though I am not sure I should be eating that much on the day as the tummy may bulge haha.. anyhoo, there is a terrace suite as well for an additional $100 a night. The terrace suites are the same as the exec suite but they do come with two terrace balconies which sound very lovely and romantic.

I also suggest calling instead of booking via the web as they typically ask you why you are booking - “err we’re getting married”. Just like increasing your probability of getting an upgrade when you fly, the same concept works when you book a suite at a hotel and while not guaranteed, you may get some special perks like early check-in, late check-out or an upgrade (now that would be awesome!)

we’re excited

Monday, June 15th, 2009

We were so excited this past week, easily evidenced by the many posts I’ve blogged in the space of two days! Not only did we start the invitation process, kindly designed by wing of krafted by wing lau, we also saw the first draft our presentation slideshow, which is another kind contribution from Karen of akakumo (her illustrations and her understanding of what we want to convey is so refreshing and truly slides of art!)

Oh we can’t wait to send out the invitations and share with you the slideshow on the wedding day.

my gowns

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Sorry girls and boys, this blog may be henceforth a little dry as I update you on bits and pieces you’ve already read about.

First, I went to try on my wedding gown on Saturday. Size 8 is almost perfect for me so slight modification required but overall, it fits perfectly. Woohoo.. I tried the gown on with the shoes I bought online and I am super-excited about the combination, yippee!! Got a chapel veil (ie long) to go with it too. Nice.

Also, really close to the second of two dresses I plan to wear at the Taipei reception. Have I talked about the first one I bought yet? If I haven’t, it’s a red Vera Wang.. and the second will likely be a Lisa Ho creamy white gown. It’s all slowly coming together, so exciting!!

Invitation

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Yay! We’ve finally agreed on the wording for the wedding invite!! It wasn’t a hard task as such but I suppose we just haven’t had the time to sit down and think about how we want to word this very special invitation.

Double Yay! because we’ve also briefed Wing, our designer, who will start work on the invitation and the result sounds so exciting.. simple but elegant and ‘textured’ haha..

We will need to tweak the invitation somewhat for the Taipei banquet invite to add more tradition and colour but I think it will be equally thoughtful and good-looking! ^^

Can’t wait!

Yippee!
